Our Education Opportunities at
Springfield Presbyterian Church
Christian Education at Springfield Presbyterian Church involves all ages. As a small church, we thrive on the interactivity of all ages. We aim to develop a sense of awareness of Jesus Christ and reliance upon God for guidance in life, making worship and service a normal, necessary and meaningful part of our lives.
CHURCH SCHOOL
Church School classes are held Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:20, with classes for PreK-K, 1st to 3rd grades, 4th to 5th, youth, adult, and a nursery. Children use the "Whole People of God" curriculum and adults choose the topic of study by consensus. The Church School year runs from September through early June.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITY
During our Sunday morning sermon children ages 3-8 are dismissed to explore, with a rotating staff of adults, a learning activity such as a craft or a song.
WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS
During Wednesday afternoon's 2 Children's Choir rehearsals, we offer a Bible Club for the children not in rehearsal.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Vacation Bible School is the highlight of our summer! Classes for 3year-olds through 6th grade draw children from our wider neighborhood as well as the church to explore God's love through crafts, music, games, and Bible stories.
YOUTH GROUP
We have an active youth group where our younger members can grow with the church and contribute to the community. They are involved in mission projects, church service projects, a Christmas Pageant, Youth Sunday, and other fun activities along the way!
CONFIRMATION CLASS
A Confirmation class is offered to 8th graders in preparation for making a profession of faith and joining the church.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The Christian Education committee also sponsors a Family Advent Craft Day the first Sunday of Advent. We sponsor, with our Church Choirs, a Family Caroling evening to reach out to our homebound. We present a Christmas Pageant with the help of our Youth Group. Youth Sunday in April celebrates and involves all our youth in planning and presenting a special Sunday morning worship. We also look for opportunities during the year to involve all age groups together such as a family canoe trip or a ski trip.
MISSION
Our Church School children learn the value of mission through rotating mission emphases, such as Heifer Project Crop Walk, and One Great Hour of Sharing.
CAMP AND CONFERENCE FUND
Our CE committee raises funds each spring with a plant sale and bake sales and offerings in order to support our youth financially as they attend church camp and youth conferences.
Most importantly we consider Christian Education to be a whole church activity--all of us giving and receiving and sharing the grace of Christ.
